The Black Cats are the only side without a win in the Premier League and are now four points adrift of safety at the foot of the table after defeat at Stoke last time out.

Ndong joined the club during the summer transfer window on a five-year deal from Lorient and he says he is settling in well, despite Sunderland’s “challenging” start to the campaign.

The 22-year-old midfielder remains convinced results will improve in the weeks ahead if they continue to work hard.

He told the club’s official website: “I’m adapting really well and the team has welcomed me with open arms.

“At the moment its challenging but everything is going well personally.

“Each day they [the French-speaking players] are really helpful in training; it facilitates what we’re trying to do and although we’re on a tricky start we will get there if we work hard.”

He added: “It’s really great to play in front of the fans and it’s great to see that they’re supporting us at every match because they encourage us and cheer us on, even when its difficult

“I’m really proud to be wearing the shirt and I want to give it my all.”
