And he’s desperate to make it a magnificent seven at St James’ Park on Sunday.

“It was a unique, special atmosphere,” said M’Vila. “I have played for Inter in the derby and it was great but not quite to that level.

“Here, you make a good tackle and you are applauded almost as if you have scored a goal. It’s fantastic. The fans give you wings to fly.”

The last person to compare the North East derby to it’s Milan counterpart was former Toon chief Ruud Gullit, who infamously dismissed its significance because Newcastle and Sunderland are 14 miles apart.
