Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has moved to ease the pressure on striker Daniel Sturridge claiming he too ignored the travelling fans.
The Reds slipped to an abject defeat at Swansea on Sunday after Klopp fielded a young team with the Europa League clash against Villarreal in mind on Thursday.
Sturridge played the full 90 minutes at the Liberty Stadium but headed straight for the tunnel whilst the rest of the squad went to applaud the visiting fans.
The incident adds fuel to the speculation linking Sturridge with a summer exit but Klopp has played down the incident.
He told reporters: “Sorry, if you think we ignored the fans, that is not what we wanted, but I went in too immediately.
“I think our fans know how close we are to them.
“After a game like this you want to leave, you want to go, you want to go home, you want to rest, you want to recover, you want to do a lot of things.
“If someone forget to say sorry it’s my fault nobody else’s fault.”
