Joe Gomez says he is getting closer to making his return for Liverpool after a long lay-off with a knee injury.
The 19-year-old made the move from Charlton last summer and made an instant impact at Anfield after he was drafted into the senior side by former boss Brendan Rodgers.
The full-back then ruptured his cruciate knee ligament while on international duty with the England Under-21 side in October, forcing him to sit out the remainder of last season.
Gomez’s injury means he has yet to feature for new manager Jurgen Klopp and he could face a fight to get his place in the first team back once he returns to full fitness.
The teenager will be hopeful of being able to play a full part in pre-season training in a bid to stay in the senior squad.
In an Instagram post containing a video of some of his highlights as a Reds’ players, Gomez wrote: “It’s been a difficult period in my life, but it’s only made me stronger…Day by day im getting closer”.
