Hull could be ready to offer striker Abel Hernandez a bumper new deal in an attempt to keep him at the KCOM Stadium.
The Uruguayan striker was the subject of at least one failed bid from Aston Villa in the summer before they switched targets, but rumours are rife they could make a fresh approach in January.
That will be even more likely if former Tigers boss Steve Bruce is handed the Villa job, and reports claim he will now be offered a new deal worth as much as £55,000 a week.
That would make him the highest earner at the club and convince him to stay following reports he has become unsettled following the departure of Bruce three months ago.
Hernandez is under contract until next summer, but Hull have the option to keep him for a further year and will be keen to activate it if they stay up and Hernandez does not pen the latest offer.
