Despite dominating the game in St Etienne, England could not find a way past their opponents and had to settle for a draw which means they finish second in Euro 2016 Group B.

Carroll, who was overlooked by Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson despite a decent finish to the campaign with West Ham, had a little pop at England when he retweeted a message which had reported comments made by the former England manager Glenn Hoddle, who said the striker would have offered something different in the final stages of the game.

Hodgson decided against selecting any Hammers players in his squad after overlooking both Carroll and Mark Noble, who enjoyed an excellent season in midfield.
