Hull striker Abel Hernandez was left out of the side that beat Exeter on Tuesday night because he has a slight groin injury.
Caretaker boss Mike Phelan made changes to the Tigers side as he attempts to keep what players he does have fresh ahead of the weekend clash with Manchester United.
Hernandez did not travel down to the south coast for the EFL Cup, kicking off suggestions he could be the subject of further interest from rival clubs ahead of the transfer deadline.
However, first-team coach Stephen Clemence has dismissed such talk and says their star striker just needed some rest and recuperation.
“The numbers we’ve got are very low and Abel is our top goalscorer,” said Clemence. “We hoped coming down we would have enough so we left one or two at home.
“Abel has had a slight problem in his groin area earlier in the season so we thought it wouldn’t do him any harm to stay at home.
“It was a football decision from Mike (Phelan) that he didn’t play tonight and that’s all I know.”
