Stoke’s Afellay has ‘serious’ knee injury

Ibrahim Afellay

Afellay scored his second league goal of the season in a 2-2 draw with Swansea on 2 April

Stoke City midfielder Ibrahim Afellay has suffered what the club describe as a “serious” knee injury.

Manager Mark Hughes, who said the 30-year-old twisted his knee in training on Friday, has not put a timeframe on his absence.

Netherlands international Afellay, a free transfer signing in July 2015, has played 31 of Stoke’s 34 Premier League games this season, scoring two goals.

He missed Stoke’s league game at Manchester City on Saturday.
