And with The Potters traditionally strong finishers to the season, Hughes and his men are emerging as the real dark horses.

Butland said: “We’re getting there. There’s still a long way to go but we’re going about our business nicely and trying to win games.

“We’re not getting carried away, we’re nicely tucked in there. There are still a lot of good teams around us.
