The Potters drew 1-1 at Huddersfield on Boxing Day and Hughes was again forced to shuffle his pack due to injuries.
To make matters worse, Ryan Shawcross was forced off at the John Smith’s Stadium due to injury and is unlikely to be fit for Saturday’s trip to Chelsea.
Kurt Zouma’s ineligibility against his parent club is compounded by Bruno Martins Indi’s ongoing injury woes and midfielder Geoff Cameron is again likely to deputise in defence.
Left-back Erik Pieters is also unlikely to feature and Hughes admits he is struggling to find 11 players to put together, although he has praised the commitment shown by those who have remained fit.
He said: “It is not easy at the moment, but we are getting through it. The lads are giving me everything and getting points.”
