Stoke’s ambitious transfer plans helped lure Swansea target Joe Allen from Liverpool to the Potteries, the player has revealed.
The Swans were heavily linked with a move to re-sign Allen after it became clear he would be leaving Liverpool in the summer and chairman Huw Jenkins admitted they were interested.
Whether Swansea made a bid and got to talk to the player, remains to be seen, but he opted to join Stoke in any case, much to the frustration of the fans.
To make matters worse, Allen has got the season off to a flyer and has spoken of the reason why he opted for Stoke.
“The transfer plans were one of the big reasons I signed there,” he said. “Everyone is talking about the impact he (Bony) could have and will have at Stoke.
“The boys who played with him at Swansea talk very highly of him so I’m looking forward to getting back up there now and playing alongside him.
“There were a few selling points. It was retaining the key players they had, they weren’t looking to sell anyone and they were actively seeking to bring more quality in.
“That was music to my ears as a player who was potentially looking to join them.”
