Stoke City news: Paul Lambert ‘gutted’ to surrender all three points to Bournemouth in Premier League basement battle

Paul Lambert has refused to blame his players after watching his side go 2-1 down away to Bournemouth.

The Potters slipped back into the relegation zone after Lys Mousset’s late strike completed a remarkable comeback from the Cherries.

Xherdan Shaqiri gave the visitors an early lead, and Lambert was ‘gutted’ his side left the south coast with nothing.

He said: “I’m not going to stand here and be negative with the team because they gave everything – they were brilliant.

“We came here and I think, by Eddie’s own admission, we played really, really well.

“So I’m gutted to be leaving here with a defeat and I would still be gutted if I left here with a draw.”

The defeat is Lambert’s first in three games as Stoke City boss, although there is no time for the Potters to feel sorry for themselves.

Next Saturday they face a huge game against potential relegation rivals at home to Brighton.
