Stoke City have been given a boost in their pursuit of Axel Witsel after the player’s agent revealed Roma are yet to make an offer.
The Belgian is expected to leave Zenit St Petersburg this summer after spending four years in Russia.
Stoke are very keen on the midfielder and they have been linked with a bid for the 27-year-old during the current transfer window.
Roma are sniffing around Witsel too but his agent, Riccardo Napolitano, has admitted that they are yet to make an approach.
“Witsel is a player that [Roma boss Luciano] Spalletti knows very well, as he coached him when they worked together at Zenit St Petersburg,” Napolitano told Rete Sport.
“This is an advantage for Roma. The departure of [Miralem] Pjanic leads us to believe that the Belgian could be signed, but so far there have been no official offers.
“The Giallorossi’s problem is certainly related to the financial aspect, considering the economic problems at the club. Witsel is worth more than €40m for Zenit.”
