“McClaren was expected to leave early this afternoon without meeting managing director Lee Charnley”
It had been expected the pair would meet face to face but at lunchtime today, the Newcastle boss had heard nothing from the club hierarchy.
But that makes his position no safer with McClaren having received no assurances from Charnley, who held a meeting with fellow directors Graham Carr and Bob Moncur in York yesterday afternoon with the head coach not present.
McClaren remains in the dark about his future and as things stand, expects to take training again tomorrow and indeed, for the rest of the week.
But the odds remain stacked against him being in charge of Newcastle at title-chasing Leicester on Monday night when his relegation-haunted side are bidding to avoid a fourth straight defeat.
