Spurs are leading the pursuit of Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi, according to L’Equipe, with Marseille looking for a fee of over £30m.
The French daily sport newspaper claim the ex-Standard Liege hitman is keen on a move to White Hart Lane, despite also attracting interest from West Ham and Juventus.
A potential stumbling block could be the reported fee that Marseille want for their 22-year-old frontman, who has scored 20 league and cup goals in a struggling side – and provided 10 assists.
Marseille president Vincent Labrune is insistent that, if the Stade Velodrome club sell their prize asset, they must only do so for a club-record figure – greater than the £24million Chelsea paid them for Didier Drogba in 2004.
Spurs chief Daniel Levy will have to be careful in negotiations for Batshuayi, who is under contract until 2020, after seeing his transfer deadline day attempts to do a deal with West Brom for Saido Berahino blow up in his face last summer.
