Harry Kane says he was happy with his efforts against Slovakia in response to the latest criticism about his England performance.
Sam Allardyce’s men scraped home thanks to Adam Lallana’s first effort for the national side with the last kick of the match but once again Kane operated as a lone striker and appeared to struggle.
You have to go back to May for Kane’s last goal in an England shirt, against Turkey, and he did not look like changing that in Slovakia.
“When you play up front on your own you are not always going to have players around you and I think it is about having that battle and holding it up for the team, running in behind and I think we did that well.” he said.
“It was a good battle up there and we created some good chances, I had some half-chances that on another day could have sneaked in but overall I was happy with the way things went.”
