Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is hoping the lure of Champions League football will be enough to land Marseille’s Michy Batshuayi.
Spurs face a battle with London rivals West Ham for the Belgium international but have the ace of Europe’s Premier competition to dangle under his nose, whereas West Ham can offer the Europa League at best.
In the past Marseille always appeared ready to keep hold of him although that stance has changed after their disappointing season in which they finished in the bottom half of Ligue 1.
MarseilleÂ’s interim coach Frank Passi has revealed the French club have already budgeted for the departure of the 22-year-old, who has netted 21 goals this season.
He said: “Everybody knows that he will leave. It is included in the accounts that Michy will be sold this summer.
“We will accept it. We know why players leave Marseille, the financials are not so enticing. We have to accept it.”
