Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing up a move for Newcastle United midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.
The Dutch international, who arrived at St James’ Park last summer for £14.5million from PSV, has been a rare positive in what has been another disappointing season for the Magpies.
He has started all 29 Premier League games this term and the 25-year-old currently leads the club’s goalscoring charts, having bagged nine goals so far.
Spurs, who are challenging for the title, have been linked with a summer move and they may lodge an offer if Newcastle fail to secure their top-flight status.
New manager Rafael Benitez has the difficult task of keeping the North East outfit in the league and failure to do so could result in a mass exodus from the club.
Wijnaldum could be the first out of the door and Spurs may be able to sign the Rotterdam-born star in a cut-price deal, although West Ham have also been linked.
