Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has hailed defender Kevin Wimmer and claimed he will play an important part in the club’s future.
The Austrian defender has recently signed a new five-year deal at White Hart Lane although he is behind the established defensive duo of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.
Vertonghen has picked up an injury whilst on international duty with Belgium and will miss the opening games of the season and Wimmer is set to step in – and he has the backing of the boss to shine for the club.
He told the club’s website: “Kevin is very young and I think that his first season with us was good.
“It’s important to be ready because you can only play 11 players but all the squad needs to be ready to take the opportunity.
“This is what he showed. He was ready and competed well and I think it was great for him.
“The competition between each other is important to try to improve our level and I think that he will be an important player for the future. It is for this that he has signed his contract.”
