Southampton manager Ronald Koeman says the club are in talks with Tottenham target Victor Wanyama about a new Saints deal.
The Kenyan was wanted by Spurs last summer and Mauricio Pochettino apparently had at least one bid in the region of £15million turned down.
However, the Argentine remains a big fan of the midfielder and is weighing up whether to make a fresh approach when the transfer window reopens.
Saints, though, are determined to keep hold of the former Celtic man and Koeman says there have been talks about a new contract for him at St Mary’s as his current terms expire at the end of next season.
Koeman said: “I didn’t talk to Victor about his contract. What I know is that the club and [head of football development] Les Reed are talking to Victor and talking to his agent about his future in he club and about his contract.
“I don’t know what the state is of those talks. We like to keep Victor in the club and that’s why Les Reed is talking to the player and to his agent.”
