Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund are set to fight it out for the signature of Mario Gotze after Liverpool lost interest in the German.
Reports in Germany claim the attacking midfielder, who is no longer wanted at Bayern Munich, will now decide between a return to his former club and a move to London.
Bild am Sonntag claim Gotze’s father Jurgen, who has acted as his agent for the past two months, had met at least twice with Spurs officials.
These meetings took place while Gotze was on international duty with Germany at Euro 2016, and the newspaper suggested the 24-year-old is now close to making his mind up.
Having previously told reporters before the tournament that he was not interested in a move away from Bayern, Gotze seems to have been keeping the media in the dark over his intention.
Liverpool were understood to be keen on signing the World Cup winner last month with Anfield boss Jurgen Klopp having coached him at Dortmund in the past but they signed Sadio Mane instead.
Gotze started in attack for Germany’s first three games at Euro 2016 and came on as a substitute in their semi-final loss to France, but did not score or record an assist.
