Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has urged the Premier League to consider a winter break for the sake of the England side.
The Spurs defender is busy preparing for Belgium’s quarter-final in Euro 2016 against Wales on Friday whilst his Spurs team-mates who play for England are heading home after losing to minnows Iceland.
The 27-year-old says he doesn’t know what’s going on with the England players or why they habitually fail in major tournament’s but he still believes a break would help.
“Who am I, of course, to judge them, but the Premier League must urgently think about a rest period in a European Championship or World Cup year,” he said.
“We are working day by day for a year. When the other leagues take a winter break, we just gear up.
“That creeps into your clothes and translates into the elimination of England.”
