Marcus Rashford is set to be recalled to the England fold by Gareth Southgate this weekend after being left out of the Under-21 squad.
The interim England boss is preparing to name his squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Malta at Wembley a week on Saturday and against Slovenia away the following Tuesday.
But Rashford’s absence from the 22-man party named by temporary England Under-21 coach Aidy Boothroyd indicates the United striker is likely to receive a senior recall.
The 18-year-old scored a hat-trick for Southgate’s Under-21s as they routed Norway 6-1 last month on his debut at that level.
The United forward, who has scored three times for the Reds this season in six appearances, could even see some action in the two qualifiers in the wake of an injury to Tottenham’s Harry Kane.
