Cedric Soares has seemingly confirmed that Barcelona are targeting him this summer as a shock contender to replace Dani Alves.
Reports this week suggested the Catalan giants had watched the Southampton full-back when he was in action for Portugal in their recent 7-0 friendly win over Estonia and could look to sign him as a replacement for the Juventus-bound Alves.
Now, when asked about the potential interest from Camp Nou, Soares admitted he was flattered at such speculation.
“It’s always interesting for a player when such an important club and a big name show you their attention,” he told Portuguese reporters.
“I can’t be thinking about it because I must be focused on the national team but competition is always a positive thing.”
Saints will not want to lose Soares this summer but may be powerless to stop him leaving if Barca do come calling, although they would likely want in the region of £10million for the 24-year-old.
