Ryan Shawcross believes Stoke have what it takes to cause an upset and beat Manchester United on their own patch this weekend.
The Potters are in desperate need of a morale-boosting win as they sit second from bottom in the Premier League, following a poor start to the season, but they have not won at Old Trafford in 40 years.
However Shawcross says they should not let such a statistic deter them as they have shown in the past they are capable of pulling off a big result when it is need.
“Manchester United is always a difficult place to go to, but we have shown in the past we can go to big teams and get a result,” he said. “We did it at Man City a couple of years ago and we will go there with a lot of heart.
“Hopefully we can put in a good performance and get the right result.”
Despite Stoke sitting in the relegation places, Shawcross is not too concerned and has backed Mark Hughes’ side to turn things around.
“I’m not a massive fan of looking at the table until the end of the season,” he added. “When you’ve played 38 games, that’s when you decide what kind of season you’ve had.
“At the moment we’re struggling, but that soon turns around.”
