Rafa Benitez says there’s plenty more to come from Moussa Sissoko and he hopes he will play a key role in Newcastle’s relegation scrap.
Sissoko is among several members of the Magpies squad that Benitez will be relying on in the final weeks of the season as they look to avoid relegation down to the Championship.
The France international, who has been a regular this season when making 29 Premier League appearances without scoring a goal, has been criticised for some inconsistent performances, and Benitez wants more from the 26-year-old.
He told the Chronicle: “He has a lot of things, it’s just being sure he will put things on to the pitch. You saw in the last game he was running and passing players, he still has to improve things.
“If he carries on doing this he’ll be better. He has everything: potential and quality. At Leicester he probably could have had a penalty. He was there but he will need time. He will score goals in the future.”
Newcastle, who are three points from safety with eight games left, resume their battle for survival when they go to fellow strugglers Norwich on April 2 after the international break.
