Championship promotion hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday have snapped up former Tottenham teen Charlie Hayford.
The 19-year-old had been at Spurs since the age of four but was out of contract at White Hart Lane this summer.
He has now penned a one-year deal with Carlos Carvalhal’s side – and Hayford says it is the Owls’ style of play which has tempted him to head north.
He told the club’s official website: “The philosophy of Sheffield Wednesday is to play from the back, to play football, and that suits the way that I like to play.
“This is a massive football club and one that would appeal to any young footballer looking to make his mark in the game.
“I have no qualms about leaving the south for the north as this is a club and place that really appeals.
“I have really enjoyed my years with Spurs and learned from some top quality players. I was invited to train with the senior players under Andres Villas-Boas when I was 15 and playing at the tempo of the first team was a fantastic experience.”
