Sheffield Wednesday sign former Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher on four-year deal

Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed the signing of former Sunderland and Marseille striker Steven Fletcher on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old fell out of favour at the Stadium of Light last season and spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Marseille.

The Scotsman scored two goals in 12 Ligue 1 outings and there were no shortage of interested clubs when it was confirmed that he would be leaving Sunderland.

But it is Sheffield Wednesday, beaten in the Championship play-off final, who have won the race to sign him, with Fletcher penning a four-year deal at Hillsborough.

It will be the first time the striker has played outside a country’s top-flight following spells at SPL side Hibernian, and Premier League stints at Burnley, Wolves and then Sunderland.
