Everton look set to miss out on Manchester City winger Jesus Navas with a return to his former club Sevilla now looking more likely.
City were reported to have offered Navas to Everton as one of three part-exchange options in any future deal to sign John Stones – and Roberto Martinez was believed to be seriously considering the pacy Spaniard.
Martinez and his chief scout Kevin Reeves saw Navas and the other two options – Eliaquim Mangala and Wilfried Bony – feature in City’s 1-0 home Manchester derby defeat to United last month.
The Everton boss would have been checking on Sunday’s opponents but Reeves’ appearance next to the manager at the Etihad Stadium suggests they were also watching a transfer target.
Navas, 30, will have one year left on his City contract at the end of the season but will, according to AS, re-sign for Sevilla – the club where he started his career.
