Manchester United star Bastian Schweinsteiger has reportedly rejected moves to Lisbon rivals Benfica and Sporting in the past 24 hours.
The 32-year-old Germany international was ‘offered’ to Sporting ahead of Wednesday’s transfer deadline, but has previously stated that he doesn’t want to play for another European club other than United and his former outfit Bayern Munich.
However, reports now claim Benfica made an approach to recruit him to their ranks – only to be told that Schweinsteiger is not interested in moving to Portugal.
A Bola claim the player’s salary was not the main issue in the player rejecting the Portuguese champions but they add that it is “very high” for the levels that Benfica are using to paying.
United subsidised a large portion of Nani’s wages when he was allowed to join Sporting on loan for a season two years ago, but Schweinsteiger is adamant he is not going to give up on his United career that easily.
