Bastian Schweinsteiger is facing a race to declare himself fit for Manchester United’s FA Cup tie at home to West Ham on Sunday.
The 31-year-old midfielder returned to first-team training earlier this week, having been out since Christmas with a knee problem.
Schweinsteiger has missed 13 matches and United boss Louis van Gaal is now desperate for him to feature against the Irons.
United’s medical staff consider it more likely that the former Bayern Munich legend will be further along the road when the Red Devils host Liverpool for next Thursday’s Europa League return at Old Trafford.
Schweinsteiger is participating in sessions without any problems and Van Gaal feels there might still be an opportunity to get him some much-needed minutes against Slaven Bilic’s in-form side.
