Manchester United are back on the trail of Schalke wonderkid Leroy Sane – the scorer of a stunning goal against Hoffenheim on Saturday.
The 20-year-old forward grabbed his eighth Bundesliga goal of the season in Schalke’s 4-1 win at the Rhein-Neckar Arena in an almost perfect demonstration of what Louis van Gaal has asked his scouts to unearth – fast, creative play.
Sane has enjoyed a good finish to the season in Germany with two goals and two assists last month to keep the big clubs interested.
United will probably have to battle Manchester City and Liverpool for his signature while Sane has gone on record previously as declaring his dream club to be Barcelona.
Schalke do not want to sell but know all players have a price and anything over £35million could be enough to tempt them into selling the German international.
Sane has been operating off the right-hand side where he can cut in onto his stronger left foot – a spot in the United side that has been filled by Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard this season.
