Sao Paulo forward Jonathan Calleri has ‘verbally agreed’ to join Tottenham after snubbing interest from Inter Milan.
The 22-year-old has bounced around the leagues in South America over the past two years, representing Boca Juniors, Deportivo Maldonado and, most recently, Sao Paulo, where he scored 12 times in 24 appearances.
The Argentine has made no secret of his desire to move to Europe, admitting he would like to play his trade in either the Premier League, Serie A or La Liga last month.
Spurs now appear to have won the race for Calleri’s signature after his father and agent Guillermo revealed there is a verbal agreement between the two parties to complete a deal later in the summer.
Inter Milan were also believed to be keen on the striker but have been unable to match the financial package on the table from Tottenham, who have been told that Calleri would like to see out the Copa Libertadores before making the move to north London.
