“It wasn’t just anger at me, it was all managers who have been at West Ham. You accept that’s the way it is at that football club”
He said: “I don’t suppose if you spoke to Harry Redknapp, Alan Pardew or Alan Curbishley they would admit that because they are West Ham boys and I’m not, but they’ve said that to me privately.
“They got the same amount of stick that I did at certain times.
“But I think I was appreciated by the majority of fans. It was a small minority who made themselves very loud and very clear about how they felt about me at the time.
“That wasn’t just me, it was all managers who have been at West Ham. You accept that’s the way it is at that football club.
“I knew that before I went there because you ring up people who used to manage there and that’s what they’d tell you.”
