A Southampton scout saw Pacos de Ferreira’s Diogo Jota score his 12th league goal of the season on Saturday as rumours of a bid mount.
Saints have now watched the 19-year-old forward three times this month and he scored a stunning goal in front of their representative a fortnight ago in a 1-0 win over Porto.
Jota’s 12th goal of the campaign again proved to be the winner against Sporting Braga last weekend and, together with his eight assists, he now has contributed more than Tottenham’s Dele Alli in terms of goals and assists combined.
Atletico Madrid were rumoured to have already signed up the Portugal Under-21 star but there has been no official confirmation of any deal and Saints may be planning to swoop.
Jota was also watched by scouts from Barcelona, West Ham and Manchester United on Saturday, according to reports in Portugal.
