Tottenham have been given some encouragement in their pursuit of Southampton’s Victor Wanyama as he has put off contract talks.
Wanyama will hold off entering new contract talks with Southampton as he waits to see if Spurs make a serious summer bid.
The 24-year-old has just over a year left on his current contract at St Mary’s and the club are keen to open negotiations over a new, five-year deal.
The Kenyan has been regularly linked with a move away in the past 12 months and was the subject of interest from Spurs last summer, although a move failed to materialise.
Mauricio Pochettino remains keen on the midfielder, however, and the Argentine could come back in the summer and offer in the region of £15million for the former Celtic man, who will weigh up his future at the end of the season.
Wanyama has made 31 appearances in all competitions this term, scoring just one goal, but he has also been sent off three times and his disciplinary issues could be an issue.
