Southampton’s hopes of enticing Frank de Boer to replace Everton-bound Ronald Koeman have been boosted by reports he’s rejected Lazio.
Rome-based newspaper La Repubblica claim De Boer’s camp have let Lazio know that he would prefer to work in the Premier League and they suggest St Mary’s could be his next destination as that is where the next available job has emerged.
The Serie A club are now expected to turn their attention to ex-Athletic Bilbao and Marseille boss Marcelo Bielsa.
Elsewhere in Italy, it has been claimed that AC Milan are interested in appointing another of the names that could be on Saints’ managerial shortlist – Manuel Pellegrini.
The Chilean is dropping back in the betting over who replaces Koeman with ex-Chelsea and Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas now third favourite, behind De Boer and Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe.
