Southampton have reportedly joined a host of clubs in the race to sign Dutch starlet Luc Castaignos from Eintracht Frankfurt.
The 23-year-old forward has only really enjoyed success in his homeland, with FC Twente and Feyenoord, having reached double figures in goals in four seasons.
Castaignos had a stint at Inter Milan between Feyenoord and Twente but only scored one goal in six appearances with the Italian giants.
His successful three seasons with Twente prompted Eintracht Frankfurt to take him to the German Bundesliga last summer but he again struggled for form, with just four goals from 19 league outings.
Despite Castaignos appearing to struggle with a step up from the Dutch Eredivisie, it has not stopped English clubs from expressing an interest with several from the Championship, with Newcastle and Norwich linked.
But some Premier League managers are also said to be keeping tabs on Castaignos and reports are claiming Saints boss Claude Puel would like to add him to his attacking options at St Mary’s.
