After protracted negotiations between the two sides, it’s understood a compensation fee of around £5million has been agreed, giving the ex-Feyenoord boss the green light to start talks about a move.

Discussions began on Monday and the details are being ironed out, although confirmation may still take some time as Koeman himself is reportedly away on holiday and has left the negotiating to his agent.

Koeman is expected to bring his assistant manager, and brother, Erwin Koeman to Goodison Park with him and first-team coach Jan Kluitenberg also looks set to swap the south coast for Merseyside, although first-team assistant coach Sammy Lee and goalkeeping coach Dave Watson are set to stay at St Mary’s.
