Former Newcastle United midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa has been tipped to follow manager Claude Puel from Nice to Southampton this summer.
The 29-year-old France international is out of contract later this week and could become Puel’s first signing at St Mary’s, once the experienced Frenchman is confirmed in the Saints hot-seat.
Ben Arfa rediscovered his best form under Puel’s management at Nice last season, scoring 17 goals and providing six assists as his side clinched a fourth-place Ligue 1 finish.
He admitted he had been inundated with offers earlier this summer but wished to whittle them down to three clubs that he would ultimately consider joining.
Recent reports had claimed Sevilla were the favourites to land him but Saints and Lyon, one of Ben Arfa’s former clubs, are also now thought to be vying for the talented player’s signature.
