Tottenham target Victor Wanyama has been quoted by Kenyan media saying he is leaving Southampton this summer.
The midfielder is a top target for Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, who first signed him for Saints when he was in charge there in 2013, and he is expected to land the 24-year-old for around £11million this summer as he has just one year left on his contract at St Mary’s.
Pochettino failed with at least two offers for Wanyama 12 months ago but he is poised to secure him next month, with Wanyama’s comments to Kenyan media outlet Soka25East seemingly confirming he is set to leave Saints and join a club competing in the Champions League next season.
“It’s always a tough moment leaving a club that you are so much used to their tradition and fans but again it’s always the dream of any footballer to play at the very top level like the Champions League,” he was quoted as saying.
“I will definitely miss the awesome Southampton fans who always showed me love and I know they will fully understand my decision.”
