Southampton scouts watched targets in Portugal and Spain again at the weekend as the club plan for the summer transfer window.
Saints watched goalkeeper Antonio Adan in Real Betis’ 1-1 draw with Sporting Gijon on Saturday as they search for a better back-up to Fraser Forster.
Adan, 28, is established as Betis’ number one but could earn more by sitting on the bench for a Premier League club amid reports of interest from Sunderland and Liverpool.
The Spaniard spent several seasons as Iker Casillas’ understudy at Real Madrid and could be an option to replace Maarten Stekelenburg when the Dutchman’s loan deal expires in the summer.
Saints also had a scout in attendance at Rio Ave’s match against Academica on Saturday, although the target could be one of many of the visiting side’s star men.
Ronald Koeman’s spies have previously witnessed Rio Ave’s matches against Arouca in December and Uniao Madeira in January, with Brazilian defender Marcelo, 26, reported to be a target.
