Midfielder Steven Davis says Southampton are keen to end their long wait for a league win at Arsenal this weekend.
Saints have failed to claim a league victory away at Arsenal since November 1987, although they did win at the Emirates in the League Cup in 2014.
Arsenal were held to a goalless draw on home soil in the Premier League clash last term and Davis believes that will provide some confidence for the squad this weekend.
Davis admitted it is now time to finally get the monkey off their back as Southampton look for their first win of the season.
“We managed to get the win in the cup, but it’s been a long time since we won there in the league so it would be nice to get that monkey off our back,” Davis said.
“We’ve done quite well against them and the games have been pretty tight with us in the past few seasons so we’ll take a lot of confidence really from putting in good performances there, maybe not quite getting that result, but with a little bit of luck hopefully we’ll do it this weekend.”
