Jose Fonte is happy at Southampton but has not ruled out a future move to return to ply his trade in his native Portugal.
The 32-year-old central defender and current skipper at St Mary’s is an integral part of Saints’ boss Ronald Koeman’s plans this season, while he is under contract for another two years.
However, when quizzed about the possibility on moving back to his homeland, with one of Sporting Lisbon, Porto or former club Benfica, who he never made an appearance for, Fonte refused to dismiss the idea.
The Portugal international, who was quoted in the Daily Star, said: “No player can close the door to the three big clubs in Portugal.
“They are three great teams, of great quality, which always fight for titles.
“But at the moment IÂ’m happy where I am, in England. ItÂ’s the best league in the world, in my opinion, but I donÂ’t close doors.”
