Highly-rated young Mechelen centre-back Keith Groeneveld has been invited to a trial at Manchester United.
The South African-born ace, 16, previously trained with United a couple of years ago when he was part of the Royal Antwerp youth set-up, but the Premier League giants have kept an eye on him since his move to Mechelen in Belgium and are weighing up whether to offer him the chance to join their Under-18 squad for next season.
Groenveld is on the radar of several of Europe’s top clubs as his performances in the youth leagues in Belgium have attracted plenty of scouts, but United are thought to be favourites to land him due to his previous spell training with them.
Reports claim the youngster is versatile and, while he is usually deployed in central defence, there is a feeling he could develop his game and eventually turn into a holding midfielder.
If he impresses, United could draft him in over the summer and offer him a full-time place at their Carrington Academy base.
