Wayne Rooney has called on his Manchester United team-mates to end a frustrating season with FA Cup glory on Saturday.
The Manchester United and England captain got the Red Devils’ opening goal in Tuesday night’s 3-1 win against Bournemouth, which had to be hastily rearranged from Sunday after it was abandoned when a suspect package was discovered in a toilet block at Old Trafford.
The winning end to the Premier League campaign ensured United fifth spot ahead of Southampton, but they lost out to rivals Manchester City for a top-four finish and Champions League football on goal difference.
Rooney was left to bemoan the lack of top European football for a second season in three years, but knows that they can at least give the supporters something to cheer by lifting the FA Cup for the first time since 2004 when they go head-to-head with Crystal Palace at Wembley.
He told the clubÂ’s official website: “Of course a club of this size, with this history, we want to be playing in the biggest competition.
“It is very disappointing not to make it, but weÂ’ve got to pull ourselves together for the game on Saturday. Hopefully we can end the season on a high.”
Punters may want to use their free bet to back Rooney and United to get their hands on the FA Cup this weekend.
