Oriol Romeu is expecting to get more chances to impress in midfield for Southampton following Victor Wanyama’s suspension.
Kenya international Wanyama is serving a five-match ban after being sent off three times in total this season and Spanish star Romeu could earn more game-time as a result.
The former Chelsea man, who faces competition from Jordy Clasie, Steven Davis and James Ward-Prowse for a starting role, intends to keep doing what he can to force his way into Ronald Koeman’s side.
“I have the same mentality as I had before. Just to train well, to train hard and be ready for the chances that I have,” he said.
“With Victor out I’m going to be doing the same. If I have more chances now, I will try to take all over them and play good for everyone.
“But, as I said, I will take it in the same way as I have the other games.”
He added: “Maybe some players need to play but because one player is doing better they have to wait for the chance. That’s football, but once you get your chance you have to make sure you do it right.
“Of course, being involved in almost every game and having those results are very good. That gives you confidence. That gives you a lot of motivation to keep going and we’re all feeling very happy.”
