Roma may give up pursuit of Newcastle star Georginio Wijnaldum in favour of signing cut-price ‘Thor’ – reports
Roma will swoop for Iceland star Birkir Bjarnason – if they are priced out of a move for Newcastle midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.
The Italian side have made the Dutchman one of their top targets this summer as they look to replace Miralem Pjanic following his move to Juventus.
However, Newcastle are demanding £25million for Wijnaldum and Roma are concerned that the Championship side will not lower their asking price.
If that is the case, according to Leggo, Roma will turn their attentions to Basel midfielder Bjarnason.
The 28-year-old, who is nicknamed Thor for his flowing locks, was part of the Iceland side which made the quarter-finals at Euro 2016 and he also bagged two goals in the process.
Unlike Wijnaldum, Bjarnason is likely to be available for around £10m and Roma have now contacted Basel to express their interest in striking a deal.
