According to reports, Southampton are set to keep striker Jay Rodriguez instead of loaning him out this summer.
The former Burnley hitman has failed to return to the first team at St Mary’s since picking up a serious knee injury in 2014.
Rodriguez, who has been with Southampton since 2012, has failed to dislodge Shane Long and Charlie Austin from the starting XI and he was expected to leave.
West Brom, Hull and Sunderland had all shown a keen interest in the 27-year-old in recent weeks and his future was cast into further doubt following speculation that Saints had signed Lille winger Sofiane Boufal for a club-record £21m fee.
However, reports emerging this weekend suggest the former England international will now be allowed to stay after he scored the equaliser in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland.
