West Brom have held ‘positive’ talks with Southampton over Jay Rodriguez going to The Hawthorns on loan in the current transfer window.
Hull City are also interested in the England international but West Brom appear to be leading the race for his signature, according to Sky Sports.
Baggies head coach Tony Pulis has made it clear that he wants to bring in five new faces before the window shuts next week.
Saints boss Claude Puel is open to Rodriguez leaving on loan because he is not in his immediate plans but the club are apparently wary of strengthening a Premier League rival.
The 27-year-old striker was capped by England in 2013 but suffered a bad knee injury in April 2014 and missed almost an entire season.
Rodriguez, who has three years left on the contract he signed in 2015, has played just six minutes so far this season as a second-half substitute in the defeat at Manchester United.
